DAVAO CITY – Some 1,200 fisherfolks from Barangay 76-A Bucana here received food packs from the office of 1st District Rep. Paolo "Pulong" Duterte on Thursday.

A statement from the lawmaker’s office on Friday said the beneficiaries are residents of the first district and are members of the fisherfolk associations namely: Aroma, Riverside, Purok Pasil, Purok 22A, Badjao, Kisada, Seaside, Dapsa 1 and Dapsa 2, Muslim-Christian, Bucana sa Kalambuan, and Bolton Riverside.

The food packs contained three kilos of rice, six canned goods, and three noodles.

“Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) began to spread across the globe, several Filipinos were having difficulty in coping with the challenges and changes, among them are the fisherfolks,” the lawmaker's office said.

Duterte's office earlier said its ongoing relief initiatives intend to benefit the “poorest of the poor” from all 54 barangays in the first district.

“Even other local governments in Davao also received assistance from Duterte’s office,” it said.

The lawmaker’s office also donated various assistance to marginalized workers affected by the pandemic.

Earlier, the office also partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment in Davao Region (DOLE-11) for the distribution of “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) for trike drivers in the first district.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed. (PNA)
