BALANGA CITY, Bataan – At least nine villages in Mariveles, Bataan have been placed under a 14-day lockdown due to the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the municipality.
The localized lockdown started on Saturday and will last until September 26.
Governor Albert Garcia said Friday that to be followed in the localized lockdown are guidelines on the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Bataan is currently under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
“We are too worried because one day before the meeting, Mariveles recorded the highest number of Covid-19-positive people in Bataan in just one day. There was contagion in the workplaces and even in the barangays,” Garcia said.
He said Mariveles alone has logged 549 cases out of the more than 1,000 cases in the province.
Placed under lockdown are barangays Poblacion, Camaya, Maligaya, San Carlos, San isidro, Sisiman, Balon Anito, Malaya, and Ipag.
“These are the barangays that have registered double-digit active cases. Poblacion has recorded three-digit active cases,” Garcia said.
He said that he understands the predicament of his constituents but he asked them to follow the guidelines on ECQ for everyone’s safety.
“The ECQ is a definite, specific and urgent step to prevent continued infection and not to exacerbate the damage we are experiencing due to this pandemic,” Garcia said, adding that residents of the affected barangays need not worry about their food supply because the provincial government would help in food rations and will even reoperate the Kusina sa Barangay.
