COTABATO CITY – A roadside bomb ripped through a Philippine Marine vehicle on Friday evening in Datu Hofer, Maguindanao, killing a serviceman and wounding four others.

An initial report sent to Col. Arnold Santiago, Maguindanao police director, identified the fatality only as a certain Private Angot, a member of the 5th Marine Battalion Landing Team under the 1st Marine Brigade.

The wounded were only identified as Sergeants Erasmo and Ahmad, and Privates 1st Class Nolledo and Ullanes, the report added.

“The Marine vehicle was negotiating a hilly section of Barangay Limpongo in Datu Hofer town around 10 p.m. when a roadside bomb went off,” Santiago said, quoting the report from the Datu Hofer police office.

He said the bomb contained pieces of shrapnel.

Initial police investigation showed that the bomb bore the signature style of the Daesh-inspired Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters operating in the area. (PNA)
