MANILA – Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat confirmed on Tuesday evening that tourists from areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) may soon travel to Boracay for leisure.

This was after the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) decided to endorse the island's reopening to the IATF for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

"Yes, we just approved it. RT-PCR din 48 to 72 before (arrival to Boracay)," she said.

Pending an official announcement, only travelers within Western Visayas are allowed to enter Boracay at present.

While no guidelines have been issued yet, Romulo-Puyat said tourists from GCQ areas would be required to undergo and submit a negative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result 48 hours to 72 hours before departure from their point of origin.

The province of Lanao del Sur and the cities of Bacolod and Iligan are currently under modified enhanced community quarantine, the second most strict community quarantine.

Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Batangas, and the city of Tacloban are under GCQ and the rest of the Philippines, under modified GCQ. (PNA)
