Covid-19 infections in Caraga up by 45

BUTUAN CITY – Cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), as well as recoveries, continued to rise in the Caraga region, the regional health office said Friday.

Some 45 new Covid-19 infections were recorded in the region on Thursday – 29 from here, eight from Agusan del Norte, two from Agusan del Sur, one from Surigao del Norte, one from Surigao City, and four from Tandag City in Surigao del Sur, the Department of Health (DOH) 13 (Caraga) reported.

It also announced one recorded Covid-19-related death – a 64-year-old man from this city who had no comorbidity but experienced cough and shortness of breathing, He expired on September 23.

“Caraga region now has a total of 1,166 Covid-19 cases with 642 recoveries, 488 remaining active cases, and 36 recorded deaths,” the DOH-13 said.

Of the new cases, 29 were considered local transmissions, 10 of whom were close contacts of Covid-19 patients, and seven were health workers.

“Sixteen of the new cases are asymptomatic while 27 have exhibited mild symptoms. Two are having severe symptoms. They are now quarantined and managed accordingly in designated health facilities in the region,” it said.

Local transmission in the region, as of Thursday, was recorded at 532 or 46 percent of the total cases, while locally stranded individuals (LSIs) infected with the virus now stands at 296 (26 percent), health care workers at 173 (15 percent), returning overseas Filipinos at 62 (6 percent), and front-liners at 45 (4 percent).
