PH Covid-19 cases up 3,073; recoveries now 252,665

MANILA – With 3,073 new infections reported, the overall tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases nationwide hit 307,288 on Monday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) noted only 49,242 are active cases and of this figure, about 86.4 percent are mild, 8.7 percent are asymptomatic, 1.5 percent are severe, and 3.4 percent are in critical condition.

The majority of the newly announced cases are from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 1,158, the provinces of Cavite with 225, Laguna with 203, Rizal with 173, and Batangas with 169 infections.

The DOH also reported 163 new recoveries, pushing the total number of recoveries to 252,665; and 37 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,381.

Of the 37 deaths, 26 or 70 percent occurred in September, five or 14 percent in August, four or 11 percent in July, one or 3 percent in May, and one or 3 percent in April.

Western Visayas recorded 21 deaths or 57 percent, NCR with eight or 22 percent, Calabarzon with four or 11 percent, Soccsksargen with two or 5 percent, Central Luzon with one or 3 percent, and BARMM with one or 3 percent.

"Some 11 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, six were recovered cases. Moreover, two cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified to deaths after final validation," the DOH said.

As of Sunday, the 104 licensed reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratories and 32 licensed GeneXpert laboratories have conducted a total of 3,439,095 tests nationwide.

DOH said it has 23,000 total bed capacity dedicated to Covid-19 patients.

Occupied are about 47 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds; 41 percent of 15,100 isolation beds; and 44 percent of 6,000 ward beds.

About 23 percent of 2,200 ventilators are in use. (PNA
