CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The city government of San Fernando is expanding the bed capacity in its isolation facility to accommodate more coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients.

Dr. Renely Tungol, officer-in-charge of the City Health Office and commander of the Incident Management Team, said on Tuesday the accreditation for the increased bed capacity of the Kalingang Fernandino from 107 to 160 has been approved by the Department of Health (DOH).

Tungol said the isolation facility is the first DOH-certified community isolation unit/temporary treatment and monitoring facility for Covid-19 cases in Central Luzon.

“Sa buong Central Luzon, tayo ang kauna-unahang nagkaroon ng isolation facility na accredited and certified by the DOH. At nitong Sept. 18 nga lamang, nabigyan rin tayo ng certification to increase our bed capacity. Ito ay nangangahulugan na maganda ang pagpaplano at mablis ang response ng siyudad laban sa Covid-19 (In the whole of Central Luzon, we are the first to have an isolation facility accredited and certified by the DOH. And last Sept. 18, we were also given a certification to increase our bed capacity. This means that the city's response to Covid-19 is well-planned and fast),” she said in a video interview.

She said confirmed, suspect, and probable cases with mild symptoms and whose home environment cannot support isolation can be temporarily housed for quarantine or isolation in the facility.

Mayor Edwin Santiago said the expansion of the isolation facility plays a big role in containing the virus.

Since the start of its operation last April 4, a total of 870 individuals have been admitted at the Kalingang Fernandino isolation facility and 729 of them have been discharged. (PNA)
