TACLOBAN CITY – The construction of the PHP92-million access road leading to a tourist site in Biliran, Biliran has been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday.
Chief of DPWH-Biliran, David Adongay, said the new access road would reduce travel time to the Germohenes Falls in Pinangomhan village from a four- to five-hour hike to a five- to 10-minute vehicle ride and 30 minutes on foot.
The project involved the opening and concreting of a 2.9-km. road, construction of a 100-meter spillway, and rehabilitation of a 60-meter road damaged by Typhoon Urduja in 2017.
"This is one of the underdeveloped tourist destinations in the province due to its inaccessibility," Adongay said in a statement.
He added that the access road would also make it easier and safer for farmers to transport their produce – rice, corn, and coconut, among others – to commercial centers.
"Farmers and residents will have more convenient travel to Naval, the capital town of Biliran province, and nearby municipalities," Adongay said.
Biliran, a fifth-class town and the oldest in the island province of Biliran, is approximately 97 km. away from Tacloban City, the regional center of Eastern Visayas. (PNA)
