DAVAO CITY--Acting Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Z. Duterte has lauded the creation of the Metropolitan Davao Police Task Force (MDPTF), saying it will contribute immensely in ensuring peace and order in the region.

In a statement Friday, the city government said the MDPTF is composed of police units from the cities of Davao, Tagum, Panabo, Samal Island, and Digos, and the municipalities of Carmen in Davao del Norte and Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur.

“The launching of the MDPTF is vital as it will help in strengthening the capacity of local police forces while preparing for the eventual activation of the Metropolitan Davao Police Office, which in turn, will ensure the maintenance of peace and order that is integral to the development of Metro Davao,” Duterte said during the launching of MDPTF on Friday.

The acting mayor also welcomed the additional 175 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel joining the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) for the newly activated police stations in the city.

Among the newly activated police stations are the Mandug Police Station, Ecoland Police Station, and Baliok Police Station.

“To our new personnel at the Davao City Police Office, please know that much is expected of you. We hope that you will not only be able to suppress criminal activities and respond to threats to peace and order in your respective areas of assignment but that you will serve as exemplars to the public especially with respect to proper police conduct and adherence to local and national laws,” Baste said.

The additional police stations, according to Mayor Sara Z. Duterte earlier, would reduce the workload of bigger police stations so that they can focus on specific areas and improve their policing services.

“Because Davao City is huge, we are reducing the area of responsibility of a police station so they can focus more on their area that is why we are increasing the police stations,” Mayor Sara said in last week’s radio interview.

On the other hand, Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-11) director, Brig. Gen. Filmore Escobal, designated Police Col. Edgar Alan Okubo as PRO-11 MDPTF commander. (PNA)
