ZAMBOANGA CITY – A supporter of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) has surrendered to government authorities in Basilan province, military officials said Saturday.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said Kahar Hamid Muktar yielded around 9 a.m. Friday to the Army's 4th Special Forces Battalion.

Muktar, of Barangay Bohe Nangeh, Lamitan City, Basilan, turned over a Garand rifle and a clip with eight ammunition.

Vinluan said Muktar is under the group of Basilan-based ASG leader Furuji Indama.

Col. Domingo Gobway, commander of the Joint Task Force Basilan, said Muktar's surrender was the result of the collaboration between the 4th Special Forces Battalion and Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF).

“Our strong collaboration with our police counterpart is yielding positive results in our campaign against lawlessness in our area of operation,” Gobway said. (PNA)
