MANILA – The water level in Angat Dam will continue to rise but to a lesser extent as Typhoon Quinta (international name: Molave) continues to move away heading towards the West Philippine Sea.
Rains from Quinta would mainly feed the dam and increase the quantity of water in this facility, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Max Peralta said Monday.
"That increase will raise Angat's water level. We're no longer anticipating further 'Quinta' rainfall over the area where Angat is so the runoff will be this dam's main water contributor then," he said in an interview.
PAGASA reported Angat Dam's 6 a.m. water level on Monday at 194.10 meters -- 1.96 meters higher than its water level on Sunday.
"Rain from Quinta caused such rise in Angat's water level," Peralta said.
He noted Angat's water level rose by 0.36 meters only during the 24-hour period ending 6 a.m. of Oct. 25.
"Quinta has not yet affected Angat during that period,” he said.
As of Monday noon, Quinta was last spotted over the Mindoro Strait and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning. (PNA)
