CEBU CITY – The top health official in Central Visayas on Wednesday said the provinces of Cebu and Bohol have displayed a downward trend in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases after three weeks of surveillance.

DOH-7 regional director Jaime Bernadas said in a statement that Morbidity (surveillance) Week 40 to 43 from Oct. 4 to 24, registered a decreasing number of Covid-19 cases in the two provinces.

The agency's bulletin showed that on Oct. 4 or the 40th week of surveillance, Cebu had a total of 515 active coronavirus cases while Bohol had 104. However, the Cebu figures went down to 434 and 86 for Bohol, a week later, or on the 42nd week.

Although Bohol experienced a slight increase to 92 on the 43rd week of surveillance, Cebu province’s cases went down to 429.

Bernadas said that Tuesday data showed Cebu province has 341 active Covid-19 cases while Bohol has 83.

“The province of Negros Oriental has a 6.7 percent increase in the number of cases from morbidity week 42 to 43. Siquijor province has reported five cases of locally stranded individual (LSI), three were from Cebu province, one from Pampanga and one from Rizal,” Bernadas said.

Negros Oriental now has 69 active cases as against the 63 cases on Oct. 4 while Siquijor listed six active cases as against one active case registered three weeks ago.

Bernadas also noted an upward trend in the Covid-19 recoveries in Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental.

Cebu province alone on Tuesday logged a total of 5,483 recoveries, which is 11.4 percent higher than the 4,860 recoveries reported in the 40th week of surveillance since the Covid-19 pandemic struck the country in January this year.

Bohol posted on Tuesday a total of 376 recoveries, which is 38.8 percent higher than the 230 recoveries on Oct. 4 (40th week).

Also on Tuesday, Negros Oriental posted at least 201 recoveries, which is 36.3 percent higher than the 128 recoveries on Oct. 4.

Meanwhile, the DOH-7 bulletin on Tuesday showed a 90 percent or 19,989 total recoveries out of the 22,199 total Covid-19 cases in Central Visayas.

Of the number, 46.9 percent (9,380) are from Cebu City; 27.4 percent (5,483) are from Cebu province; 11.6 percent (2,315) are from Mandaue City; 11.16 percent (2,231) from Lapu-Lapu City; 1.9 percent (376) from Bohol; one percent (201) from Negros Oriental and 0.02 percent (3) from Siquijor.
