MANILA – The city of Manila will install Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for city residents this weekend as the government bats for a 100-percent cashless tollway payment, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has said.

Domagoso said the activity has been scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Kartilya ng Katipunan beside the Manila City Hall.

He said he has received numerous requests from Manila residents asking for help in easing traffic congestion in different tollgates where RFID mass registrations are being done.

Sa pakikipagtulungan ng NLEx, SCTEx, Cavitex, at Calax, itong tinatawag na Easytrip RFID, merong magaganap na drive-through installation (in partnership with the NLEx, SCTEx, Cavitex, and Calax, we will conduct a drive-through Easytrip RFID installation),” Domagoso said Wednesday.

With the RFID installation in the city, the city government hopes to reduce traffic jams in the different tollgates and shorten the waiting time of passengers.

He also clarified that the RFID installation would only cater to those who have Class 1 vehicles or cars, SUVs, and passenger vans, such as UV express.

Trucks and other large vehicles are not included.

Domagoso added that no documents are needed and that a vehicle owner just needs to bring PHP200 for the initial load.

He also reminded those who will avail of the initiative to follow the minimum health requirements, such as wearing face masks and shields and observing safe physical distancing. (PNA)
