MANILA – The Archdiocese of Manila has issued a family prayer for the faithful to recite for their dearly departed as cemeteries and columbariums were ordered closed starting Thursday until November 4 to prevent mass gatherings and stem the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

According to the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission-Manila, the family may gather inside their homes and recite the prayer.

“To foster an atmosphere of prayer, an altar may be prepared with a crucifix and a lighted candle as well as pictures of departed loved ones. The head of the family may serve as prayer leader, other members of the family may serve as readers,” it said in a Facebook post.

Once the temporary closure of cemeteries is lifted, the Commission said the prayer may also be used when they visit burial grounds.

“This prayer may also be used during a visit to the cemetery or columbarium when permitted by quarantine protocols,” it added. "The head of the family may sprinkle holy water on the tomb of the deceased after the Concluding Prayer".
