MANILA – Parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, should brace for Typhoon "Rolly" as it is forecast to traverse Southern Luzon, and may also make landfall over Catanduanes on Sunday, a weather specialist said on Saturday afternoon.

The typhoon was last tracked 345 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-southwestward at 25 kph. It packs maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 265 kph.

Rolly may likely pass mainland Camarines provinces area on Sunday, and over mainland Quezon by Sunday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted that violent winds and intense rainfall associated with the inner rainband-eyewall region will be experienced over Catanduanes and Camarines provinces on Sunday, and over Quezon by Sunday afternoon through evening.

An inner rainband-eyewall region is the strongest wind that can be experienced in areas near the eye of the typhoon, PAGASA said.

Ariel Rojas of PAGASA said Metro Manila should prepare for violent winds and intense rainfall, as these would likely uproot the trees and destroy houses, especially those made from light materials.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

On Sunday, heavy to intense rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, Calabarzon, Aurora, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, Marinduque, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro.
