BUTUAN CITY – The Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) is not taking any chances amid the threats of weather disturbances seen to affect the country in the coming weekend.
In its Severe Weather Bulletin No. 21, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) spotted 1,075 kilometers east of Mindanao is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday afternoon (Nov. 6).
“Our Emergency Operations Center managed by our Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is on alert for any possible weather disturbances that might affect Dinagat Islands,” Jeff Crisostomo, the information officer of Dinagat Islands told the Philippine News Agency on Friday.
Crisostomo said the PDRRMO, headed by Rosario Roxas-Alon, has been regularly giving updates to Gov. Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao if there are urgent concerns especially on the monitoring of the present weather disturbance.
“The PDRRM Council is also ready to coordinate with our municipal counterparts,” Crisostomo said.
The PDI currently has 441 active responders situated in the different towns and are on standby for an emergency situation, he added. The province has also three main evacuation sites in the town of San Jose, another three in Tubajon, and one at the provincial Capitol in the town of Dinagat.
Data from the PDRRMO in the area also showed that Dinagat Islands has a total of 421 alternative evacuation centers situated in the towns of Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, Libjo, Loreto, San Jose, and Tubajon.
“The provincial information office in Dinagat is also on alert when it comes to timely information dissemination,” Crisostomo said. (PNA)
