DAVAO CITY – Amid the surge of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases here, the city government will expand the isolation area in the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) to accommodate more patients.

“Initially, we already talk to the officer-in-charge of the SPMC administration, and he said he already identified an area for that,” Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said in a radio interview Monday.

Sara said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has also committed to put up additional isolation facilities inside the government-run hospital.

Without specifying any timeframe, she said the local government seeks to fast-track the completion of additional isolation facilities, including the waiting area for Covid-10 patients.

As of Monday, the city has a total of 1,357 active Covid-19 cases, with 190 deaths.

Since the pandemic began in March, the city already has a total of 4,476 Covid-19 patient, 2,929 of whom have already recovered.

Sara said the city also facilitated the cremation of 385 individuals whose deaths were related to Covid-19. (PNA)
