MANILA – Electricity in some parts of the Bicol Region had been restored as the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) fixed power lines damaged by Super Typhoon Rolly.
The NGCP deployed 53 line gangs or over 420 personnel in Bicol to expedite the restoration of transmission lines affected by the recent typhoon.
“NGCP successfully energized parts of the Bicol Region ahead of schedule, bringing back power to the entire provinces of Camarines Sur and Sorsogon, and parts of Albay,” it said Tuesday.
The NGCP said as of Nov. 9, transmission services to Camarines Sur I Electric Cooperative (CASURECO I), CASURECO II, CASURECO III, and CASURECO IV in Camarines Sur; Sorsogon I Electric Cooperative (SORECO I) and II in Sorsogon; and partially in Albay Power and Energy Corp. (APEC) in Albay were restored.
The latest restored transmission lines were the Daraga-Ligao and Ligao-Polangui-Iriga 69kV lines and the Naga-Tinambac 69kV lines that were re-energized Monday evening.
These lines power the franchise areas of APEC, CASURECO II, and CASURECO III.
Last Saturday, NGCP linemen brought back power to the Naga-Lagonoy 69kV and Naga-Libmanan 69kV lines that transmit power services to franchise areas of CASURECO I and CASURECO IV.
Daraga-Sorsogon, Sorsogon-Balogo, and Sorsogon-Bulan 69kV lines serving SORECO I and II covering the entire province of Sorsogon, the Daraga-Legazpi and Daraga-Sto. Domingo 69kV lines serving the APEC franchise areas, and the Labo-Naga 230kV line 2 were all restored the same day.
As the Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant was also re-energized last Nov. 7, NGCP brought back power to the Daraga-Bacman 230kV line that supplies power to parts of Albay and the entire province of Sorsogon.
“NGCP continues to work on the restoration of remaining lines serving the province of Albay and completion of works to synchronize restored lines back to the main grid. Permanent restoration of the toppled backbone structures are also underway” it said.
“Rolly” damaged 755 transmission structures, including 47 toppled backbone structures in the Bicol.
Meanwhile, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) also sent 206 engineers, linemen, and support personnel in “Rolly”-stricken provinces of Albay, Catanduanes, and Camarines Sur.
Sixty-five of Meralco linemen have helped the NGCP to expedite power restoration in Bicol.
Meralco’s aid to bring back power in the typhoon-hit Bicol is part of the Power Restoration Rapid Deployment (PRRD) Task Force Kapatid that enables electric companies and cooperatives from different parts of the country to help in re-energizing efforts in areas hit by calamities. (PNA)
