MANILA – Newly installed acting National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, on Wednesday vowed that the region would be filled with police officers to combat crimes.

“More police visibility on the streets. This is now part of our marching orders, let us flood the streets of Metro Manila with policemen in order to ensure the safety and security of our constituents,” he said during the change of command ceremony in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Danao, who replaces now Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Debold Sinas, also disclosed that there would be some adjustments in the shifting of police personnel.

He, however, said he would bank on the strategic deployment of policemen as part of preventive measures against crimes.

The NCRPO has a strength of more or less 30,000 policemen and Danao said it has always been a challenge to guard every street and corner of Metro Manila due to its large population.

“The police who will not follow the instruction on enhanced police visibility will be dealt with accordingly. We can only do that if we properly account (for) our personnel," he said.

Danao also pledged to continue Sinas' aggressive measures against erring cops and intensify anti-illegal drug operations, saying he would immediately implement Oplan Litis among rogue police officers.

"This has been my program since day one that I became commander at my own level. Oplan Litis means litisin ang tiwalag at scalawag na miyembro ng hanay ng ating kapulisan (prosecute erring cops and scalawag members of the police force). I will be very strict on that," Danao said in his assumption speech. "I expect all members of the Philippine National Police, especially here in NCRPO, would toe the line. I appeal to all of you, let us put a stop, especially on illegal drugs. If there is any single one of you who is a bit stubborn, as early as now, I tell you, the door is always open for you to leave."

He advised cops to always remember President Rodrigo Duterte's campaign against illegal drugs, as well as the efforts against criminality and corruption.

"We can only do that with devotion and hard work towards our sworn duty, which is to serve and protect our community. I rather believe that the discipline is properly embedded in the hearts and minds of our people here in NCRPO," he added.

Danao has two more years left in his service and previously led the Manila Police District and became the head of the Police Regional Office 4-A (Calabarzon). (PNA)
