TACLOBAN CITY – Communities in Guiuan, Eastern Samar tagged as critical zones for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were placed under granular lockdown on Thursday to protect nearby communities.
Mayor Annaliza Gonzalez-Kwan issued Executive Order No. 11-096 imposing strict movement restrictions in select areas of Barangay 3 and Hollywood, and the residential houses of Covid-19 patients in the villages of Sulangan, Poblacion 3, Dalaragan, Canatahay, and Campoyong.
"Clustering of cases was noted in these areas for the past seven days, prompting the local government to implement more stringent measures for the disease surveillance and contact tracing," Kwan said in a statement on Friday.
As directed, residents within the critical zones must follow the set protocols under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), while its adjacent areas declared as a containment zone should follow the modified ECQ guidelines until Dec. 2.
Concerned village officials have set up border control points to monitor the movement of people in critical zones wherein only one quarantine pass is allowed per household.
Meanwhile, the town would remain under general community quarantine (GCQ), prohibiting operations of non-essential business establishments, loitering and roaming in public places 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and mass gatherings.
The local government would also strictly enforce minimum health standards especially in the town's public market and require persons with travel history to GCQ areas within and outside the region to undergo the 14-day quarantine in its designated facilities.
As of Thursday, the town has confirmed a total 69 Covid-19 cases, including 36 recoveries and two deaths, based on the monitoring of Eastern Samar provincial health office. (PNA)
