P14-M illegal drugs destroyed in Davao Region

DAVAO CITY--The Police Regional Office (PRO-11) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 11 (PDEA-11) have destroyed some PHP14- million worth of illegal drugs on Thursday in Camp Sergeant Quintin M. Merecido here.

In a statement Friday, PRO-11 said the burnt illegal drugs include 716 grams of shabu, 27,393 grams of marijuana, 51 pieces of marijuana plants, 4.9 grams of Ephedrine, and 16 grams of cocaine.

The destruction of the prohibited drugs coincided with the observance of the Drug Abuse and Prevention Control Week 2020, anchored on the theme “Better Knowledge for Better Care”.

In her message read by Colonel Kirby John Kraft, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte underscored the cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the government's campaign against illegal drugs.

“The fight against drugs is one we cannot fight on our own, But when we are committed to working together, we can bring it down to its knees and create a truly drug-free Philippines,” Mayor Sara was quoted as saying.

Col. Edgar Alan Okubo, PRO-11 deputy regional director for operations, said the destroyed narcotics consisted of those approved by the court for disposal.

Okubo said the destroyed illegal drugs form part of over a thousand cases filed in courts by the Philippine National Police and PDEA in the Davao Region. (PNA)
