SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Fifty-five beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers in the municipality of San Remigio started their employment on Wednesday.
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Antique provincial director Melisa Navarra, in an interview Wednesday, said beneficiaries started with community gardening and drainage cleanup activities to get rid of the debris caused by the recent typhoons.
“The TUPAD beneficiaries work are those that had been recommended by the local government unit (LGU) of San Remigio as a priority,” she said.
Interview for TUPAD applicants was done on Tuesday as part of the activities of the Antique Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF ELCAC) in Barangay San Rafael.
The recipients of the TUPAD from Barangays San Rafael, Bugo, and other neighboring areas will be working for the next 10 days right in their barangays. “They will be paid PHP395 daily,” she said.
Navarra added the TUPAD beneficiaries are also covered by the Government Service Insurance System and were provided with one-long sleeved shirt, buri hat, and face mask as their personal protective gear.
Meanwhile, San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. said that the TUPAD implementation will help his constituents who have no other source of income at this time of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
“We are grateful because the DOLE is here to help us,” he said.
He urged his constituents to show their dedication to work and to abide by the policies of DOLE in the implementation of TUPAD. (PNA)
