P1.5-M worth of marijuana destroyed in Benguet

CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police in the province destroyed some PHP1.57 million worth of marijuana during a two-day operation.

Capt. Marnie Abellanida, information officer of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), said the operations were in the towns of Bakun and Kibungan on December 7 and 8.

Some 2,400 fully grown marijuana plants worth PHP480,000 were destroyed in Sitio Gilgil, Barangay Kayapa in Bakun.

Meanwhile, in Sitio Alingaw and Sitio Naboy-o, Barangay Poblacion in Kibungan, an estimated 4,250 fully grown marijuana plants worth PHP850,000 were discovered cultivated in a public lot with 850 square meters land area.

Another marijuana eradication operation was done in Sitio Bao-edan, Barangay Kayapa in Bakun which led to the discovery of more or less 1,200 fully-grown marijuana plants worth PHP240,000, also cultivated in a 200-square meter lot.

All marijuana plants discovered were uprooted and burned on site.

Abellanida said PROCOR has done a total of four marijuana eradication operations that led to the destruction of about PHP1,602,280 worth of marijuana from December 1 to 9. (PNA)
