DAVAO CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) allocated PHP45 million in financial assistance for Dabawenyos whose jobs were affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said Friday.

In a radio interview, Duterte disclosed that PHP15 million has already been downloaded to DOLE-Region 11 (DOLE-11) under the "Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers" (TUPAD) Program.

“Since we started our Covid-19 response, we allocated a big budget on food (ration) and financial assistance such as TUPAD, Work for Davao, Eskwela Davao, and very recently this PHP15 million grant from DOLE. Commissioner Norman Baloro, the program manager for this project, is now identifying the high-risk barangays and those with numerous low-income families,” Mayor Sara said.

Likewise, Duterte said that PHP30 million will be allotted for the DOLE Emergency Employment Program in the city.

“The PHP30 million is not downloaded yet but we already started the documentation of this assistance. Once the fund will be downloaded, we will announce to them how they can access it,” the mayor added.

Meanwhile, Baloro said that some 2,355 Dabawenyos will benefit from the TUPAD program.

Qualified applicants, he said, will work for 15 days and receive a salary of PHP 6,000 each.

“As per instruction of Mayor Sara, we will also select barangays as beneficiaries of this program and again, they must have not received any other government assistance during the pandemic,” Baloro said. (PNA)
