CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Several huge establishments, particularly malls, here on Wednesday joined the local government in implementing the QR Code as a contact tracing measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Aside from mall-goers, clients of the power retailer Cabanatuan Electric Corp. (Celcor) also have to present a QR Code when entering its offices.

In an announcement, the city government said the QR Code can be generated by clicking https://www.cabanatuancity.gov.ph:2020/#/ using a cellular phone.

It was learned that the city government began using the QR Code in all transactions at the City Hall last November 4.

"Magkakaroon rin ng registration booth sa harap ng City Hall para sa mga kliyenteng wala pang QR code, walang cellphone o mayroong cellphone nguni’t walang camera o walang kapasidad na makapag-Internet. Magdala lamang ng inyong government-issued valid ID para sa verification ng inyong impormasyon (A registration booth will be set up in front of the City Hall for clients who have no QR code, no cellphone, or have a cellphone but without a camera or Internet-capability. Just bring a valid government-issued ID for verification of your information)," the LGU said in an earlier announcement.

This developed as the city government, led by Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara, continues to battle Covid-19 through continuous mass rapid testing.

Those who tested positive for the disease were immediately swabbed and quarantined.

The city also distributed food assistance, consisting of 10 kg. of rice and sardines with three pieces of face shields to each of about 120,000 families here. (PNA)
