SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan – The province will soon have a new isolation facility at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) here intended to cater for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and other infectious disease patients.

The first phase of the construction of the isolation facility will be funded by the Department of Health (DOH)- Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) worth PHP10 million.

“The additional isolation facility will have 28 beds and five wards on its first floor and 12 isolation rooms on its second floor,” Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman said in an interview on Thursday.

De Guzman said the isolation facilities of the provincial government and the local government units are still sufficient, but the new isolation facility is an augmentation.

“Hindi natin hinahangad subalit tayo ay naghahanda kung sa gayon ay may mapaglalagyan tayo ng mga kaso sa darating na panahon (We are not hoping for it but we are preparing so that when that time comes, we have a facility to care for the patients,” she said.

The facility's groundbreaking was held on Dec. 22.

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan Blood Bank’s license to operate from the DOH has been released.

The blood bank situated at the PPH, which aims to provide safe and reliable blood services for Pangasinenses, will be fully operational in January, according to the Provincial Information Office (PIO).

The PIO added the Pangasinan Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory has completed the stage IV or the proficiency testing and is only waiting for the license to operate from the DOH to be fully operational.

As of 9 a.m. of Dec. 24, Pangasinan recorded 395 active cases from the total 2,603 confirmed cases.

Of the total number, 2,199 have recovered and 109 have died. (PNA)
