TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial health office (PHO) of Eastern Samar has declared community transmission of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Guiuan town as more unrelated local cases have been reported for the past days.

In a social media post on Thursday, the health office urged those with flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, colds, and body weakness, among others to immediately self-isolate and report to the local health authorities.

"We strongly advise the public that unless absolutely necessary, everyone should stay at home especially those considered high risk including the elderly, pregnant, and those with existing illness," the PHO said.

According to the Department of Health, community transmission is when there are local cases whose links cannot be established.

As of Wednesday, Guiuan has recorded a total of 141 cases, including 94 recoveries and two deaths, based on the PHO monitoring report.
Meanwhile, Eastern Samar has confirmed a total of 729 Covid-19 cases since March, including 591 recoveries and 13 deaths. (PNA)
