Suspect in 2015 kidnapping of 3 foreigners in Samal Island falls

MANILA – A key suspect in the kidnapping of three foreigners and a Filipina in Samal Island in 2015 was arrested in Manila on Thursday, Philippine National Police chief, Gen. Debold Sinas said.

Sinas said based on the reports from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr., Jehan Aklul alias Khalid Akhalul/Abu Khalid was arrested at 1:50 a.m. Thursday in a 5th floor rented unit on Carlos Palanca St., Brgy. 648, San Miguel, Manila.

Sinas said Aklul is the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court 11th Judicial Region Branch 34 of Panabo City for kidnapping with homicide case.

Also arrested was Mohammad Amara Muslimin,30, for possession of two hand grenades, a detonating cord, and a blasting cap inside their rented residence.

Police records identified Aklul as involved in the kidnapping of Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, and a certain Tess, a Filipina in Samal Island on Sept. 21, 2015.

The victims were transferred to Sulu from Samal, during negotiations.

The two Canadians were beheaded while the Norwegian and the Filipina were released later in 2017. (PNA)
