ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – The city government here has allotted some PHP25 million for the procurement of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines, prioritizing front-line medical workers and those who belong to marginalized sectors.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. said on Tuesday that he likewise sought the assistance of the Department of Health (DOH) to augment a counterpart fund of PHP50 million for the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccines.
“We want to exhaust all the means to ensure that all residents of Angeles City especially those members of vulnerable sectors will receive free vaccine against the virus,” Lazatin said in a statement.
“We would also like to request the DOH for assistance in the procurement of vaccines and in its distribution to the community,” he added.
The mayor said the move, as part of the city’s Covid-19 prevention efforts, is a priority to safeguard residents from the virus.
"If the assistance will be approved, it would be instrumental in ensuring that more members in the community will receive protection from Covid," he said.
He also thanked the DOH, as well as the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for always extending support in the city government’s fight against the health pandemic.
On Jan. 4, two new Covid-19 cases were reported in this city, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,696.
Meanwhile, six more patients have recovered from the dreaded disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,437 while the active cases went down to 158.
On the other hand, the total number of deaths stayed at 101. (PNA)
