One of Ifugao's most wanted falls

BAGUIO CITY – After hiding for 29 years, one of the Ifugao’s Top Most Wanted Persons (TMWP) was finally brought behind bars after he was captured in the province.

Capt. Marnie Abellanida, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) information officer, on Wednesday said operatives of Lagawe Municipal Police Station (MPS) arrested James Bunay Humiwat, 53, native of Boliwong, Lagawe, Ifugao at Sitio Bakkugan Pullan, Lagawe on Jan. 4.

Humiwat has a bounty of PHP140,000 for his arrest.

Abellanida said Humiwat is charged with multiple frustrated murder and attempted murder with assault against a person in authority.

The cases stemmed from an incident on Jan. 11, 1992 where Humiwat threw a grenade inside the Jose Singh’s store at Poblacion South, Lagawe, Ifugao that resulted in the wounding of six persons.

The other incident happened on April 13, 2020 emanated from an attempted murder with assault against a person in authority.

Col. David Mariano, Ifugao provincial director, lauded the participating operatives for a job well done.

“This accomplishment shouldn’t have been realized if not for the untiring efforts and quick action of our operatives in performing their sworn duty with emphasis on the participation and trust of the community in providing reliable information for the fulfillment of this endeavor,” he said.
