ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Thursday alerted the city's Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) to brace for possible effects of bad weather.

Salazar issued the order after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Mindanao is affected by the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

The BDRRMCs were also ordered to closely monitor the situation in their respective areas of responsibility for possible hazards that may be brought about by the ITCZ.

“Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds from the northeast with slight to moderate seas,” the PAGASA said.

Residents here woke up to a heavy downpour which started early Thursday.

Meanwhile, Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief, said they have ready equipment to be used in emergency response should the need arise. (PNA)
