LEGAZPI CITY – Heavy rains on Friday night triggered flooding and landslides in Sorsogon and Catanduanes provinces.

In Sorsogon, spokesperson of the Office of the Governor, Dong Mendoza, said on Saturday that heavy rains caused floods that rendered the Banagao Spillway in Matnog town impassable to all types of vehicles.

A landslide, meanwhile, blocked a road network in Sitio Tiris, Barangay Osiao, Bacon District, Sorsogon City, making it also impassable to all types of vehicles.

In Catanduanes, floods and landslides hit the towns of Bato, Panganiban, and Viga, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office reported.

A landslide was reported at a road in Barangay Bagumbayan in Bato, making it passable only to motorcycles.

Flooding due to river swelling affected roads and farmlands in Barangay Talisay also in Bato.

In Panganiban, the swelling of the Panganiban River affected roads, farmlands, and villages along the river channel.

In Viga, floodwaters from the river channel submerged roads and farmlands. (PNA)
