ZAMBOANGA CITY--The Department of Health-9 (DOH-9) has released some PHP5.1 million cash assistance to health care workers who contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Dennis Dacayanan, DOH-9 medical officer, said Saturday the cash assistance is in line with the benefits package under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, which also mandates critical care services for infected medical front-liners.

Dacayanan said at least 467 health care workers filed for benefit claims since the start of the pandemic last year but only 244 were approved by the DOH.

“The claims were denied since the applicants were either not health care workers or not assigned to health facilities,” he said.

The amount of cash aid depends on the severity of an infected health worker's medical condition, ranging from PHP15,000 to PHP100,000.

“Some received PHP1 million as they died due to Covid-19 in line of duty,” Dacayanan added.

Meanwhile, he advised the public to continue to comply with the existing health protocols in place to protect themselves from Covid-19. (PNA)
