Ex-cop wanted for murder killed in Pampanga

MANILA – A former police officer who went rogue was killed in an encounter with members of the Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG).

In a statement Thursday night, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas, citing reports coming from AKG director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo identified the suspect as Rolando Basmayor Jr.,

Basmayor has a standing arrest warrant for murder issued by Judge Ma. Cristina Ramos-Beltran of the Malolos Regional Trial Court Branch 83.

The encounter ensued as police officers were about to arrest Basmayor, the no. 2 most wanted person of San Rafael, Bulacan, in Barangay Sta. Monica, Floridablanca, Pampanga on Wednesday.

The suspect opened fire on the arresting team, prompting them to retaliate and hit him on the body.

The suspect was immediately brought to Romana Pangan District Hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (PNA)
