MANILA – Newly-appointed National Police Commission (Napolcom) commissioner Vitaliano Aguirre II on Friday cited the need for the agency to be more responsive in shaping a better police force of the country.

“To repay the President Duterte’s continuing trust in me, I intend to fully execute his marching orders for a better Napolcom, and consequently, a better police force, to the full extent of the authority granted to me under the law,” Aguirre told reporters during his first day as a Napolcom official.

Aguirre, also Napolcom's deputy chairperson and executive officer, also asked the agency's personnel for their cooperation, support, and patience as he adjusts to the demands of his new office.

He also joined an executive briefing at the agency where each unit presented their functions, mandate, priority programs, and work status.

Given the limitations and coronavirus disease 2019 protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, the executive briefing was done by Napolcom central office executives.

Aguirre highlighted the importance of “integrity, dedication, and excellence as hallmarks of all official tasks in order to maintain the people’s confidence and trust in the Napolcom.

“Onward to a better Napolcom, Onward to a better police force, Onward to victory!”, Aguirre added.

The Napolcom administers police entrance examinations and conducts pre-charge investigations of police anomalies and irregularities, as well as summary dismissal of erring police officers. (PNA)
