DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte on Thursday warned the public of individuals asking or soliciting money as "campaign funds" for her potential candidacy in the 2022 presidential elections.

“News has reached me that there are individuals asking for money from people and groups, including businessmen, to allegedly use it as a campaign fund for my presidency bid,” Mayor Sara said in a video provided by the City Information Office.

Duterte made it clear that she did not permit anyone to raise funds for any reason and that the public is advised not to believe or contribute any amount to these unscrupulous individuals.

“The money raised in this fundraising can only be used for the personal interests of the people behind it. Do not give money, do not be fooled by this campaign fundraising,” she said.

Mayor Sara said any election fundraising in her name is "purely a scam or some kind of fraud" and must be reported to the police.

The Presidential Daughter remains coy on the possibility of entering next year's presidential derby.

Last month, she even asked polling companies to exclude her name among the 2022 potential candidates.

“The Presidential Elections of 2022 is farthest from the minds of many Filipinos as we focus firmly on how to survive the economic and the humanitarian crisis still in front of us, as we continue to battle the effects of Covid-19 on our people and our country,” she said.

Duterte issued the statement after a recent Pulse Asia survey showed the Presidential Daughter bested 10 other potential candidates for next year's presidential race. (PNA)
