DAVAO CITY--Mayor Sara Z. Duterte has extended the 24-hour liquor ban and curfew hours in the city until March 31.
In an executive order released Friday, Mayor Sara underscored the importance of regulating certain activities that may contribute to the local transmission of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
She also cited the need to control the spread of Covid-19 cases in the city, noting that local health facilities such as the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) are running out of beds.
The surge of Covid-19 cases in the city in recent months has prompted the national government to maintain the general community quarantine (GCQ) classification here.
Violators of Executive Order 5, which will take effect on January 31, will be held liable by existing applicable laws and ordinances.
The current 24-hour liquor ban, covered by earlier executive orders, was implemented at the height of the pandemic last year to prevent Covid-19 exposures “through unbridled drinking sessions,” the mayor's latest order pointed out.
Curfew hours, meanwhile, aim to avert the spike of cases during the holiday season, while supporting the local police’s Davao anti-criminality campaign, Duterte added. (PNA)
