DAVAO CITY--Over 2,000 beneficiaries received livelihood assistance during the continuation of 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte's "Livelihood Assistance and Anti-Drug Campaign Caravan 2021."

In a statement Tuesday, Duterte's office said the caravan's beneficiaries received PHP15,000 cash through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

One of the beneficiaries, 61-year-old fisherman Roger Monsalud, said they had a hard time fishing because of the pandemic and that the financial aid was a big help to his family.

“It is difficult now because we have to abide by the stricter health and quarantine protocols. We cannot go fishing every day or anytime we want because we have to rely on the schedule based on our food and medicine (FM) pass and the curfew implemented in our city," Monsalud, president of the Talomo Center Beach Nagkahiusang Mananagat Association, said in vernacular.

Another fisherman, Nestor Racaza, said the livelihood assistance helped them to buy new fishnets and gears necessary for their livelihood.

"With the new fishing gears, hopefully, we can catch more fishes when going out for fishing. Everyone is having a hard time since the pandemic and we are also doing our best to adjust and catch up with the new normal," Racaza said.

Aside from the fisherfolk, Duterte's "Livelihood Assistance and Anti-Drug Campaign Caravan 2021," which started late last year, also aims to provide livelihood aid to other sectors under the first district.

Duterte's office earlier said the caravan aims to help the poorest of the poor affected by the pandemic. (PNA)
