MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – The city government here has installed plastic bollards at the North Reclamation Area (NRA) to provide dedicated lanes for cyclists.

The Mandaue City Public Information Office (PIO) shared on Friday photos of these bollards on social media, which got a positive reaction from netizens.

This is part of the first phase of the city’s Bike Lane Network started on Thursday.

The city government has undertaken the initiative in cooperation with the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH-7).

The local government has been putting up bike lanes around the city since June last year to provide safety and protection to bikers.

There has been a significant rise in bicycle users in Metro Cebu since strict community quarantine measures were implemented last year due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The lack of public transport options brought about by the strict quarantine protocols has forced many to own their own bikes for transport purposes.

“As a way to protect the bicycle riding public, the local government of Mandaue City has made it a priority to install infrastructure projects intended for the safety and protection of our bikers. This includes the bike lane network, bicycle repair stations as well as bike parking racks all throughout the city,” the Mandaue City PIO Facebook post said. (PNA)
