DUMAGUETE CITY – A Negros Oriental provincial health official has cautioned people to pay attention to influenza-like illnesses (ILI) or symptoms amid the current unpredictable weather.

Assistant provincial health officer Dr. Liland Estacion, the health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), in a virtual press briefing Wednesday afternoon, appealed to the people to seek consultation with health workers if they exhibit such symptoms.

“We do not treat all ILIs as Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases but you have to be assessed. You cannot be complacent,” she said in a mix of English and Cebuano.

She also advised the people to bring umbrellas and jackets with hoods to keep dry during rainy days.

Estacion has repeatedly asked the people to cooperate with the government in order to bring down the number of Covid-19 cases in the province.

The province recorded additional recoveries from Covid-19 even as positive cases appear to be slowing down based on results from the past days, she said.

She said they received Wednesday 95 results from the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Molecular Laboratory (NOPHML) consisting of 78 negatives, six new positives and 11 repeat-swab positive cases.

The new recoveries are from Bindoy and Tanjay City (two each); Dumaguete City and Tayasan (one each), said Estacion,

The new positive infections are from Bacong (two), Sibulan, Tanjay City, Dauin, and Dumaguete City (one each).

As of Feb. 17, the province’s total caseload is 1,626 broken down into 1,407 recoveries, 168 active positive cases, and 51 deaths.

Estacion said the active cases remained at 168 because while six patients had recovered, there were also six new infections.

She reminded the public to adhere to the minimum health protocols. (PNA)
