COTABATO CITY--Police arrested four men for allegedly interfering in a police operation that led to the escape of two suspects in the Maguindanao town of Barira on Sunday.

Brig. Gen. Samuel Rodriguez, police regional director for the Bangsamoro Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), identified the suspects as Ibrahim Ayunan, Salik Macugar, Norhamin Macugar, and Tatah Macugar.

“Police seized two .45-caliber pistols from them,” Rodriguez said in an interview by reporters here Monday.

Operatives of BARMM Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, backed by Philippine Marines, were about to arrest murder suspects Porok Ragundo and Jacky Abdul Una in Barangay Liong when their companions, allegedly including the four suspects, opened fire on the arresting team.

“This forced lawmen to return fire, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire while the two wanted men fled,” Rodriguez said.

Nobody was hurt from both sides.

Rodriguez has directed the police and CIDG to intensify the search for the two wanted men. (PNA)
