MANILA – Six more light rail vehicles (LRVs) have been added to the Metro Rail Transit Line 3’s (MRT-3) fleet of running trains after completing their general overhaul.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the MRT-3 said the six LRVs are in addition to the three previously overhauled LRVs that are already running on the mainline.

“Ang kabuuang siyam na general overhauled LRVs sa linya ay makatutulong sa pagpapataas ng kapasidad ng mga tren na magsakay ng mga pasahero (The nine total general overhauled LRVs in the line will help increase train passenger capacity),” the MRT-3 said.

To ensure their safety, the LRVs were first tested in a simulation run.

In total, there are 66 LRVs, 20 CKD train sets from Czechoslovakia, and one Dalian train set from China running at the MRT-3.

At present, the MRT-3 can fill its trains at 30 percent passenger capacity, 123 passengers per train car or 372 passengers per train set.

A total of 72 LRVs will undergo a general overhaul as part of the maintenance works provided by the MRT-3’s maintenance provider, Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the MRT-3 said. (PNA)
