Pinay tennis wunderkind climbs anew in world rankings

MANILA – Filipina tennis wunderkind Alexandra "Alex" Eala continues to zoom upward in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.

In the latest update following the end of the Australian Open, the 15-year-old tennister jumped 140 spots to 763rd overall following deep runs in the tournaments she played at, highlighted by her championship in the first leg of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's World Tennis Tour in Manacor, Spain recently.

Eala was fresh from a quarterfinal finish in the ITF W25 Grenoble Tournament in France.

Australian star Ashleigh Barty remains the top female tennis player in the world, according to the WTA rankings.

Japanese-American sensation Naomi Osaka, banking on her newly won Australian Open title, climbed to number two, dropping Romanian SImone Halep to third overall. (PNA)
