ZAMBOANGA CITY--Malacañang declared Friday, February 26, as a special non-working holiday as this city marks its 84th Charter Day anniversary.

Proclamation No. 1103, issued on Tuesday and signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, said the holiday seeks to give an opportunity to the Zamboangueños to celebrate the Charter Day anniversary.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Zamboanga be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures,” the declaration said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the Charter Day commemorative program, dubbed as “Dia de Zamboanga,” will be broadcast on her official Facebook Page, Beng Climaco.

Salazar said the highlight of the celebration will be the turnover of the Zamboanga City Waterfront and Heritage Walk Development at 5:30 p.m. on R.T. Lim Boulevard.

The other activities include SIEMBRA: Zamboanga Horticultural Festival 2021 from February 22 to 28 at SM City Mindpro; Dia de Zamboanga Job Fair 2021 on February 24 at KCC Mall de Zamboanga; and the Local Achievers Award on February 26.

The Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga is an annual observance that celebrates the city’s charter anniversary marked by the installation of the first set of appointed city officials led by Mayor Nicasio Valderosa in Feb.26, 1937. (PNA)
