Gunman kills Zambo Sibugay vice mayor

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A still-unidentified gunman killed the vice mayor of Mabuhay town in Zamboanga Sibugay on Friday afternoon, police said.

Capt. Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) spokesperson, said they were investigating the killing of Vice Mayor Restituto Calonge, who was shot in front of the municipal hall at about 3:05 p.m. on Friday.

Based on initial information, Duco said Calonge was sitting under a mango tree in front of the municipal hall when he was shot by the gunman, who immediately fled from the scene.

He said all possible motives are being looked into to identify and arrest the suspect.

Mabuhay, which comprises 18 barangays, is a fourth-class municipality with a population of 36,870 as of the 2015 census. (PNA)
