MANILA – "Gabay", the first Filipino track to be used in the Disney film "Raya and the Last Dragon", is set to be heard on Spotify on Friday.

Singer KZ Tandingan was chosen to showcase her talent for this track, which is about trust, strength, and unity.

As the film was inspired by various Southeast Asian cultures, Disney Philippines' Studio Marketing head, Allie Benedicto said "Gabay" shows their commitment to work with local creative talents in telling stories in a local manner.

Tandingan found the song inspiring when she first read the lyrics.

"I think what young Filipinas can learn from Raya is to never underestimate yourself. Never think that you are too young to start the change that your community needs," Tandingan told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in an email correspondence.

Tandingan said one should not think he or she is not good enough to achieve something.

"Because as long as you learn to trust yourself, as long as you do your best and you do it with all your heart, that is all you need to spark change,” she said.

Tandingan, who has been a National Commission for Culture and the Arts music ambassador since 2019, said she is excited for Southeast Asians to watch the movie.

"’Raya and the Last Dragon’ represents and celebrates our cultures. It shows the beauty of Southeast Asia and its people," she said.

According to Disney Philippines' website, "Raya and the Last Dragon" is set in the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony.

Some 500 years later, Raya will have to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. She will learn that trust and teamwork are also needed to save the world.

The movie will be shown in Philippine cinemas soon. (PNA)
