MANILA – House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez confirmed on Wednesday night that he had tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

"Today, I received the result of my RT-PCR test showing that I am positive for Covid-19. I am scheduled to undergo a second test tomorrow to rule out a false-positive result," Romualdez said in a statement.

Romualdez said he is currently in isolation, and his doctor closely monitoring his situation.

"Let me assure those who are concerned with my physical well-being that I am coping well despite experiencing symptoms of the disease, and that I am in high spirits," he said.

Romualdez urged his close contacts to undergo RT-PCR testing.

He, however, assured that he will perform his duties as soon as he fully recovers from the virus.

"Rest assured that I will go back to work and perform my duties as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives as soon as I get a clean bill of health from health authorities. Let us continue praying for all those who are afflicted with this disease," he said. "Please include in your prayers all those who serve in the frontline to deliver the much-needed services to our people." (PNA)
