LAOAG CITY – Mariano Marcos State University College of Medicine (MMSU-COM), the pioneering medical school in Northern Luzon, achieved a 100-percent passing rate in the March 2021 Physician Licensure Examination (PLE), with one of its graduates landing in the top 10.

“Congratulations MMSU College of Medicine pioneer class second batch of takers for another 100%! Hurray to Dr. Jaymee Borja Quindara for being the top nine!” MMSU president Dr. Shirley Agrupis posted on Friday, lauding the latest achievement of the barely six-year-old medical school here.

Quindara had a passing rate of 86.92.

The Professional Regulation Commission released the list of passers and performance of schools on Friday night.

Two graduates of Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, Jeremiah Lim (89.67) and Gabrielle Paul Pascual (88.75), placed first and second. Another schoolmate, Scorch Dominique Roldan was 10th with a grade of 86.17.

All five MMSU takers hurdled the PLE. The others were Aileen Concepcion M. Agustin, Charis Vina E. Keith, Jonathan C. Lim and Elma Flor D. Lucero.

They were among the 1,234 who passed out of 1,927 examinees from Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

“Your triumph and success is most definitely not a sole function of baseline intelligence; it’s a matter of putting your untiring efforts and unending perseverance to the rite of passage in getting that elusive license.,” the MMSU-COM Medical Students Association posted on Facebook. “The trail is the thing, but it’s not the end of it. Be proactive advocates of your patients and serve the people in all walks of life with a purpose.”

In November last year, all the seven pioneer medical graduates of MMSU passed the PLE as well.

“This feat is another feather in the cap of the university,” COM dean Dr. Ricardo Guanzon said.

He added that maintaining the same performance in future PLE is a great task, considering the challenges of the new normal mode of learning and training, along with the changing line of technology.

Established in 2015, COM is the youngest college of the state-run university. (PNA)
