MANILA – An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said election personnel who are running the voter registration for next year's elections should also be prioritized for vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“@COMELEC field office workers — Election Officers & Election Assistants — who run #voterregistration centers are exposed to the risk of Covid-19 infection every day,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said on his Twitter account (@jabjimenez).

He said those who are in their local offices are at risk of contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) due to the nature of their jobs.

He added that personnel who would serve as electoral boards during election day are also at risk.

“On election day, Electoral Boards risk exposure the whole day. These people need to be vaccinated,” Jimenez added.

Currently, the vaccination program of the government prioritizes health care workers such as doctors, nurses, and other front-liners.

The ongoing nationwide voter registration will end on September 30, 2021. (PNA)
