MANILA – The country recorded 10,016 new coronavirus infections, the highest single-day number of cases since the start of the pandemic, even as 78 more patients have beaten the disease for a total of 603,213 recovered cases on Monday.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said those who have beaten the illness account for 82.4 percent of the Philippines' total case tally which has reached 731,894.

Meantime, the new confirmed cases brings the total active cases to 115,495.

The agency also reported 16 new deaths for a total of 13,186.

The DOH said about 95.9 percent of the active cases are mild, 2.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are severe, 0.41 percent are moderate, and 0.7 percent are in critical condition.

"There were 14 duplicates removed from the total case count as eight of these are recovered case. Moreover, eleven cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation," it added.

A DOH data on March 28 showed that 18 percent of 28,492 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

Currently, 58 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 45 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, and 45 percent of 6,000 ward beds dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are utilized.

About 39 percent of 2,000 ventilators are also utilized by patients with Covid-19.

The public is reminded to continue observing the minimum health standards, especially when going outdoors -- the proper wearing of face masks and face shields, avoiding cramped places where physical distancing is impossible, and avoiding staying outside for a long period. (PNA)
